Match the Construction to the Installation

Limited Routing Space

A compact installation needs more than a smaller cable diameter. Conductor construction and flexibility also affect routing and termination. The YHAX family uses a highly stranded conductor construction, providing a relevant starting point where flexible internal wiring is required.

Heat Around the Equipment

Temperature selection depends on the complete cable construction. Our AF and AFR families provide different PTFE-based insulation structures, while conductor material can change the applicable rating. Compare the specified configuration rather than selecting by a temperature number alone.

Signal Paths Near Power Circuits

A shielded cable is not automatically suitable for every signal interface. Our data bus and differential cable families give you distinct starting points for interface-specific selection. Pair arrangement, impedance and shield termination still need to match the equipment design.

Compare High-Temperature Wire Constructions

Construction Insulation Conductor Rated Temperature Minimum Ambient Temperature Rated AC Voltage
AF-250 PTFE Silver-plated copper +250°C −65°C 250 V or 600 V, depending on model
AFR silver-plated-copper construction PTFE tape-wrapped Silver-plated copper +250°C −60°C 110 V, 250 V or 600 V, depending on model
AFR bare-copper construction PTFE tape-wrapped Bare copper +200°C −60°C 110 V, 250 V or 600 V, depending on model

These examples apply to the specified constructions. They do not define a common rating for every product in the family. Model, conductor size and construction must be matched to the applicable specification; short-term exposure and test temperatures must not be treated as continuous operating ratings.

From Cable Selection to Custom Development

We bring several cable families into one product range, allowing the selection to begin with the electrical function and installation conditions rather than a generic cable description.

Construction Choices Within Product Families

AF and AFR provide different insulation constructions, while aerospace, data bus and field cable families address different wiring and transmission requirements. These distinctions help narrow the starting point before detailed model selection.

A Defined Starting Point for Custom Requirements

Our scope includes the development of non-standard specialty cables. An existing family can provide a starting point, while the feasibility of a custom construction depends on the project’s electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements.

Cable Selection Guide

Should I choose by application or insulation material first?

Start with the electrical function and installation environment. An internal equipment wire, a data bus cable and a field power cable have different selection paths. Insulation material is then evaluated together with voltage, temperature, mechanical handling and the required construction.

For high-temperature internal wiring, AF and AFR provide PTFE-based starting points. For interface-driven signal transmission, begin with the relevant data bus or differential family.

Is C55 the same as every cable described as “Spec 55”?

A similar series name is not enough to establish interchangeability. Our C55 range should be evaluated using the exact model, conductor gauge, insulation construction, shielding and applicable specification. Do not assume another manufacturer’s approval or qualification transfers to a C55 model.

Does a shared temperature rating make two wires interchangeable?

No. The same temperature rating can apply to different conductor materials, insulation structures and voltage configurations. For example, conductor material changes the applicable temperature rating within the AFR range. Installation dimensions, termination requirements and the full specification also need to be compared.

Does watertight construction mean a cable is ready for any underwater installation?

No. Longitudinal water blocking and resistance to external water pressure describe different conditions. A cable for an underwater installation also needs a defined pressure or depth, exposure duration, electrical function and termination arrangement. The term “watertight” alone does not establish those limits.
